Form CRS

A short plain-language relationship summary that US brokers and advisers must give retail investors, covering services, fees, conflicts, standard of conduct and disciplinary history.

Form CRS is deliberately tiny, capped at a couple of pages, and uses prescribed conversation-starter questions such as how the firm makes money and whether anyone has a legal or disciplinary history. It must be delivered at or before the start of the relationship and posted publicly.

Its value is comparative. Read two firms' summaries side by side and the differences in capacity, fees and conflicts become obvious in a way that a hundred-page form-adv brochure does not achieve.

Firms have been sanctioned for inaccurate disciplinary answers on it, which makes it a fast cross-check against finra-brokercheck and adviser records before opening an account.
