Coach versus therapist

A coach works on performance within normal functioning; a licensed therapist treats mental health problems, and the difference matters when distress is real.

Performance coaching assumes a broadly well person who wants to execute better. It addresses routines, focus, discipline, and confidence in the task.

Therapy is a regulated clinical activity, delivered by licensed professionals, for problems such as anxiety disorders, depression, compulsive behaviour, and the effects of severe financial stress. Trading can cause and worsen all of these, and none of them are fixed by better checklists.

The practical rule is about scope. If the difficulty appears only at the screen and looks like habit, coaching is a reasonable fit. If sleep, relationships, eating, or mood are affected, or you cannot stop despite wanting to, that belongs with a clinician. See gambling-disorder-signs and problem-gambling-help.
